I have noticed that X/Motif is not part of the cygwin packages. Why is that? |

X/Motif and cygwin
The OpenMotif license does not allow it to be ported to non-open operating systems. Cygwin runs on top of Windows, and since the Windows kernel is proprietary, *nobody* can legally port OpenMotif to Cygwin. (This is an open group rule, complain to them, we have *many* times.)
You options are
1. lesstif - Good for simpler Motif applications
2. Motif - Contact a source licensee of Motif and pay for a port. (ICS has a source license and the right to do the port. However, there are probably others too)

X/Motif and cygwin
Open Motif is distributed for Mac OsX. Is that possible because
it uses an open X11 (X.org i Leopard) and the BSD kernel is also open.
But the apple desktop is not open (but motif don't use that desktop),
what are the reuirents for an system to be open ?

X/Motif and cygwin
My understanding from previous discussions with OSF (who gifted us with this license...) is that it is the "kernel" that is the test. Since the MacOSX kernel is available under an open source license, we can port it to MacOSX.
Of course, this is just my understanding and I am not a lawyer...
